This restaurant gets crowded on the weekends but you can get a seat without waiting on weekdays.
I enjoyed my breakfast at a table by the window.

Telework First Day ① Evening Shift: H

Good morning. From today, I will spend three days working at home. But as I am working the evening shift, I have some private time to myself. The weather is fine, so I’ve taken the opportunity to do some laundry. According to the weather report, it may rain this evening. But it doesn’t matter to me because I’m working from home I thimk I’ll go for a walk and grab some breakfast.

The Second Telework Meeting

We held the Second Telework Housing meeting today. As we decided upon the theme “Is Telework Fun?” we made more concrete proposals regarding the Work Relay.

1. Work Decided Upon for the Work Relay
The workers involved in this particular work relay were all company employees from the Development Department, so we decided to construct a User Registration System.
What kind of user registration service is this? We will introduce the system in detail once it is complete. What kind of system can we achieve in one week? Will we complete it? Please look forward to our announcement

2. Period
The Work Relay will be undertaken in three days during November 2015.

News of the Work Relay will be submitted to this blog once this project is underway by the main Teleworkers.

3. The 10 Work Relay Provisions
The theme for this project is “Is Telework Fun?” We hope to heighten effeciency and in order to ensure no problems arise between the Teleworkers, we decided on 10 provisions.

10 Provisions for the Work Relay

  1. Complete the task within three days (Including the detailed building of the system).
  2. Pass work transfer documents onto the next worker (the next worker will use these to carry on the task)
  3. Other than interviews with the users, the work will be carried by eacj shift and if there are any problems, the person working on that shift will solve them.
  4. Whilst working as a Telworker there will be no consultations about the system
  5. No complaining
  6. No overtime
  7. A 90 minute break will be provided
  8. Mental checks will be regularly made (Before work, during lunch and after work)
  9. One photograph must be taken each day
  10. During the period, one blog entry must be made every two days at the minimum

4.Schedule

What is a Work Relay?

Today, we would like to tell you about the “Work Relay” that we decided upon in the Telework Housing meeting.

The topic came up when we were discussing working methods that could only be achieved through Telework. In general, companies have fixed working hours and company employees work within those hours. However, lifestyles vary. Some people operate better in the morning, while others work better at night. So we decided to conduct a test case wherein three people worked on the same project, each choosing different shifts.
Quest-Computer’s regular working hours are from 9 am to 6 pm (with a one hour lunch break between 12 pm to 1 pm). We arranged our working day as follows:
Ms. S would work from 8 am to 3 pm and then pass on the baton to Ms. H. (After this, she would carry out other duties). Ms. H – who worked better in the evenings – would carry on and occasionally hand over the project to Mr. N – currently busy with a new addition to his family – who would work for an hour before he went to sleep.
Although it is normally only possible to work on a project for 8 hours in the day, thanks to this Telework relay, the total time spent on this project could be extended. Meaning that a project can be easily completed within a short span of time. That’s the benefit of a Work Relay!
When workers turn their attention to the same task at the same time, waiting time and differences in speed occur. With workers concentrating on their tasks on their own, it is possible to dispose of waiting time. Dependent upon the size of the project, it is more beneficial to have people developing that project at the same time. However, with smaller scale projects – like the one we will undertake – we will prove that s “Work Relay” is more efficient.
We will also conduct a mental check and gauge the differences between conducting tasks at the workplace and working 100% at home.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Although we decided to conduct a “Work Relay” this time, let us introduce several other proposals that were put forard.

tell_icon06 = Proposal 1 – Telework on board the Shinkansen =
  Positive Opinions
・Looks fun
・I would like to try it
・By visiting tourist sites and shopping, a contribution towarads regional economies could be made (Record how much money has been spent in doing so)
・It would be good to gather data in locations where there are no IT connections

Problems
・Is it possible to turn the time you spend on the train into working hours?
・Shinkansen deska are small, making it difficult to work
・There are security problems
・You can only concentrate on e-mails and creating documents (not good for productivity?)
・Travel Sickness

tell_icon05 Similar proposals included working on ships, working in airport lounges, etc.
tell_icon06 = Proposal 2 – Telework – renting a room in a hotel for an extended period of time, relocating the family at the same time =
  Positive Opinons
・By renting a room in a resort area would be refreshing

Problems
・What is the difference between this and a Telwork company house…?

tell_icon05 A similar proposal involving an old Japanese-style house.

We discussed many things. We are currently working on proposals for a second Work Relay. We will publish the results on this blog, so please look forward to it.

Is Telework Fun?

Today we held the first Telework Housing Meeting. As part of our Telework Month, we have decided on the theme to be covered.

The theme this time is:
t_blog01

This time, as part of our Telework Month, we took a look at the theme “Is Telework Fun?”

1. We will get three hybrid Teleworkers (who work both at home and at the office) and one Teleworker who works 100% at home, to do a “work relay,” each member choosing their own time shift.

2. What will happen if the hybrid Teleworkers are prevented from going to their office for a week (other than in times of emergency) and have to work at home?
How will they feel?

Will they want to go into the office?
Will they come to the conclusion that Telework is fun?
We will analyze how their thinking changes.
Our next entry will cover the details of the “Work Relay” and introduce opinions discussed in the meeting.
